i havent switched them yet, as im still working out how to represent the new levels funky ascii display requirements with our screwy bbcode tags. i'll make sure anyone who has passed 9 gets pushed back down so they have to complete the new 9.

im going to make geek 9, geek 10. and slot another level provided by thoriphes as level 9. hopefully this should give us a greater sense of progression throughout the linear geek challenge.

xenic, note what I said. .NET is evil, even though it's been submitted to ECMA I have no doubts that MS will be the perpetrator of shenanigans. This is a given, it's not like they haven't before with CSS/1&2 and IE's abysmal support for them.

I said C#, as a language itself, is of a much higher quality than Java as a language. Hats off to Gosling, and maybe the new Java revision will help change that, but ultimately C# makes many concepts that are awkward in Java very natural, but Java has very few cases where the reverse is true. This isn't particularly shameful, Java/Oak was officially started in the mid-eighties, so Java is just showing signs of its age.

I suspect that Mono will eventually diverge from .NET's offical standard, as will MS. If the Gnome project has their way, in two years every linux app programmer will be using Mono/C#. Even Qt just came out with a recent release that introduces .NET integration, something they promise they will continue to expand upon.

Imho .NET just came out too late for C# to be able to eclipse Java

D-Cypell, while .NET may be an evil thing, you shouldn't hate C# too much. I don't agree with everything about it, but in general it's a very solidly designed language.

It'll probably eclipse Java, if only because it's a lot more expressive.
