Something I recently noticed due to a humorous update issue in the Nottinghamshire Police News RSS feeds

I use the popular google rss reader for viewing various news feeds, and happened to notice a rather funny couple of edits to an RSS feed I subscribe to. As you can see from the screen print below for the feed http://www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/rss_feeds/news.xml it looks like their CMS system is a little keen in including each edit of a news article in their feed.

The actual link to the story ended up with the title

Crime tumbled in Nottinghamshire 2010

I guess the moral of this story is, if you’re going to cache your news stories for RSS readers to access, ensure your content management system does not keep every version that you edit, or that there is a significant enough delay between the time you cache it and make it available for access, and when you're editors have finished faffing around with it!

Five of those pages still exist in the RSS feed as of this moment, but look like they'll be knocked off by new items soon. They all take you to what look like quiz results pages, though. One is 'crime reduced by 5%: wrong', one is 10%, one is 40% etc.

I'm just wondering if they made some kind of quiz, which really just comprised of links to four+ new pages, each of which had some text on whether it was right or wrong. And their CMS takes the URL/slug from the title, which means no duplicate titles...

All in all, a bit of a mess.
