So, you've just downloaded a large pile of source, say WineX, or the Linux kernel, run ./configure, and now make depend && make. It starts compiling. And keeps compiling. And continues compiling. As anyone who has tried to build something big knows, this can take a while, especially on slow processors. Heck, even on a pentium 4 2ghz, Advanced Strategic Command (www.asc-hq.org) takes around half an hour to compile. So, what to do while you wait?

There's a heck of a lot of weird stuff on the internet, a lot of which should be able to keep you amused to a while For starters:
  • http://www.bash.org: A collection of quotes from IRC. This is a favourite of mine.
  • http://www.darwinawards.com:The Darwin Awards website. "The darwin awards honor those who improve the gene pool by removing themselves from it in really stupid ways". Need I say more?
  • http://www.ioccc.org: The Internation Obfuscated C Code Contest. People compete to make the messiest functional code (or abuse the preprocessor, or some other stuff).
  • http://www.textfiles.comThe textfiles archive. Lots and lots of stuff from BBS's all over the world, divided into several sections, totalling several GB of ASCII text. Of course, I'm pretty sure there' s one sectoin almost everyone's going to go to first...
  • http://www.muppetlabs.com/~breadbox/intercal-man/: Learn intercal! With any luck, you'll pass out from a logic loop or just sheer confusion, and come to when your compiling is done.
  • http://www.cairc.net: CA-IRC. Come pester us OSI people in #osi@irc.cyberarmy.com. There's always someone to pester there.
Well, that's a few from me, I'm sure you can come up with your own ideas, or know your some - post them as comments! Happy compiling! -ReK
